Over the weekend of 9th/10th June 2018, Haynes of Maidstone attended American Speedfest VI at Brands Hatch Race Circuit.
American SpeedFest was launched in 2013 at Brands Hatch, an event combining American motorsport with music, food and entertainment. Haynes Ford chose to support the event in 2015 when the imminent launch of the RHD Ford Mustang provided a US icon that would meet with visitor expectations of American performance and muscle cars.

2017 Speedfest

The 2017 event was the year Haynes Ford were really able to support the event and booked a site large enough in the Traders village for 5 of the Performance Ford vehicle range. Loaning both the safety and pace cars to the event, with a Ranger providing a recovery vehicle, Haynes were well represented on the circuit and gained fantastic exposure to all of the racing fans. The stand itself hosted the RS Focus, both EcoBoost and V8 Mustangs, our Steeda Q350 demonstrator and our Transit-Centre were represented with their MS-RT Ranger demonstrator.

Social Media

Haynes again had 5 vehicles on their stand, the Team Sky graphics providing an eye-catching S-Max and an MS-RT Ranger providing interest for our Commercial fans. Along the front of the stand a Triple orange V8 Mustang, resplendent with Team Haynes graphics sat alongside a Nitrous Blue RS Focus and a Q500 Mustang, loaned to us by Steeda UK. With no opportunity to provide the safety and course cars this year Haynes decided to increase exposure at the event by running a competition with visitors. Providing two ‘selfie frames’ and encouraging the use of the hashtag #TeamHaynes on social media the competition offered the chance of winning a Driving Experience around Brands Hatch. The Haynes staff team got behind this venture and spoke with many of the visitors, using the frames to engage with the customers and encourage sharing and liking of the companies Social Media channels.

2016 Speedfest

For that first year's event Haynes displayed a Fiesta ST alongside the company’s newly restored 1965 Ford Mustang. Amazed by the amount of visitors to the show and the interest shown by the visitors in the American theme, Haynes took along a Ford Connect Van and a White V8 Cabriolet Mustang for the 2016 stand. They also loaned their red V8 Mustang demonstrator and their 1965 Mustang to sit either side of the entrance to the VIP building at Brands Hatch.

2018 Speedfest

The 2018 Haynes stand was again situated in the Traders area and this year was next door to Robinsons Foundry based in Canterbury. Kent’s Indian motorcycle dealer are well known to Haynes from working together at joint performance events and the fusion of both Performance Bikes and Performance Cars allowed photo opportunities for fans of both 2 and 4 wheels American cruising.

Ford Bullitt

Ford Public Affairs delivered a prototype of the new Ford Bullitt Mustang for display at Speedfest, housed under a Ford canopy by the public underpass to the track. Obviously this was the first time that the Haynes team themselves had been able to see the car and several of the team split their time between the Haynes stand and Bullitt to try and answer any of the visitors enquiries.

Aside from the headline NASCAR racing action there were other events during the Speedfest weekend to provide entertainment, from a foot-long hot dog eating competition, to a Live Action Arena hosted by American superbike star James Rispoli. Other highlights included dinosaur shows for the children, Optimus Prime and the Transformers, appearances from Star Wars characters walking the show, and live music, headlined by Californian band Lucky Tongue.
