What is Auto-Start-Stop?

Ford Auto-Start-Stop technology can automatically switch off the engine when you stop at traffic lights or if your vehicle is idling in a queue. Whilst it does this, it still supplies power to essentials like the headlights, radio, air-conditioning and the Ford SYNC system. When you are ready to move, you just need to depress the clutch and select first gear as usual, or press the accelerator on an automatic, and the system restarts.

An EcoBoost engine equipped with Auto-Start-Stop will store electricity in the battery while driving normally. When making common stops, the EcoBoost will shut down to prevent using fuel and putting unnecessary wear on the engine. The essentials will run off of the advanced battery rather than engine power.

This technology is particularly effective in towns and cities, where fuel consumption can be cut by up to 10%. It also reduces CO2 emissions due to minimising the amount of time a vehicle is idle.
