All-Wheel Drive, Confidence in changeable conditions An available intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system can determine how much grip, cornering balance and responsiveness is required in wet, dry or icy conditions and on varying terrain. The technology is able to send drive to the front or rear axle depending on requirements. And this ‘torque on demand’ system delivers exceptional handling and improved efficiency.

Electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) automatically adjusts to your speed and the conditions. At low speeds, the system makes wheel turns feel lighter and easier, improving manoeuvrability. At high speeds, when you need greater control, it firms up the steering. Now with drift control, EPAS also takes into account crosswinds and other driving conditions, while active nibble control reduces any unwanted vibration in the steering wheel.

Electric power-assisted steering (EPAS)Front Split View CameraSees what’s coming, from either side with a tiny (optional) camera, on the front of the S-MAX, relays a split-screen image to your car’s Multi-Function Display so you can see vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians coming from either side. This optional new technology option is invaluable if you’re edging out of a narrow parking space, or onto a busy road where your view is obstructed.

Active Park Assist system - Stress-free parking and pulling out Using a combination of different technologies, Active Park Assist does more than steer you into parallel parking spots. With Park Out Assist (POA), it helps you pull out of them, too. The Perpendicular Parking (PPA) system can sense if there’s space for your car to fit, then reverse you in. Side Parking Aid (SPA) also warns you if there are any lateral obstructions.

Rear view camera Easier reversing, as you can view what’s behind. Bollards, railings low walls… the rear view camera (option) shows whatever’s behind you on a screen built into the centre stack display and activates automatically when you select reverse gear. The system also displays virtual guidelines, to help you park in the smallest of spaces.

Lane Keeping System An advanced system to help you stay in lane A Lane Keeping System (standard on Titanium and Titanium Sport) uses a forward-looking camera to detect if you’re accidentally drifting out of lane. Lane Keeping Alert then warns you by vibrating the steering wheel and displaying a visual warning. If you're slow to react or don’t respond, Lane Keeping Aid can provide steering assistance to help guide you safely back into the right lane. The technology is designed for multi-lane roads (like motorways), so will automatically deactivate at speeds below 43mph (65 km/h) or can be turned off manually.

A panoramic roof for a lighter, airier feel At the press of a button, the electronically operated roof blind glides away, allowing natural light to stream in through the fixed panoramic roof. At the same time, solar reflective glass keeps you cool and protects you from harmful UV rays.

Keeping the ideal temperature with a powerful climate control system helps you stay warm or cool. An available Dual zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (DEATC) also enables you to select the temperatures you and your passenger each prefer.

Clear your windscreen quickly, with Quickclear This clever feature is designed to get you on the move quickly on frosty mornings. Just touch a button and ultra-thin filaments can superheat to de-ice, de-fog and de-mist your windscreen as well as help de-freeze the wipers. The system works in seconds, even if it’s below zero outside.

Smart seating system for ultimate flexibility Versatile seating provides generous space for up to seven, with folding second- and third-row seats enabling numerous seating and stowage configurations. For example, the second-row and third-row seats can be folded flat at the press of a button making instant room for your sporting gear or bulky DIY purchases.

Intelligent Speed Assist (ISA) Helping to keep you inside the speed limit Intelligent Speed Assist (ISA) is designed to enhance your speed control, enabling you to concentrate on the road. First, the Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) camera (standard on Titanium & Titanium Sport) automatically detects the current speed limit (when activated), then the system automatically adjusts your maximum speed setting to that limit.

A Hands-free Tailgate for effortless opening and closing If you’ve got your hands full, and the S-MAX senses the proximity of your KeyFree key-fob, all you have to do is wave your foot under the rear bumper and the tailgate will automatically open or close.

Key-free means hassle-free The Ford KeyFree System lets you lock and unlock your car, without having to take your key out of your pocket or bag. This feature (standard on Titanium and Titanium Sport) saves you hassle when you’ve got your hands full.

Ford Power Starter Button Start your car with the touch of a button now there’s no need to use your key. Simply push the Ford Power Starter Button while holding the clutch down (or brake pedal on an automatic) and the engine fires into life.

Hi-fi sound with A nine speaker Ford audio system comes as standard with Ford SYNC 2 and delivers exceptional clarity of sound throughout the car. An optional Sony Navigation system, with DAB radio, provides a heightened listening experience and includes 12 Sony speakers.

Ford SYNC 3. Advanced hands-free and touchscreen technology Next generation Ford SYNC 3 lets you wirelessly connect your mobile and MP3 player. You can control your music, phone, navigation system, and climate control using simple, intuitive voice commands or via the 8” colour touchscreen.
With Ford SYNC 3 you can call up a list of local restaurants just by saying “I’m hungry”, or access the Michelin Guide to help you choose and book. Wi-Fi connectivity is available via hotspots, with a USB modem. And the system includes Ford Emergency Assistance, which can automatically call the Emergency Services in the event of an accident (see our Safety and Security page).

With Adaptive Cruise Control technology, you choose the speed you want to drive at and the system will maintain it. If the built-in RADAR sensor detects a vehicle ahead, it will slow the car to maintain a pre-set distance. Once the road in front is clear, the system will accelerate to your chosen speed.

* The declared fuel consumptions and CO2 emissions are measured according to the technical requirements and specifications of European Directive 80/1268/EEC and the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 as amended by (EC) 692/2008. Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are specified for a vehicle type and not for a single car. The applied standard test procedure enables comparisons between different vehicle types and different manufacturers. In additional to the fuel efficiency of a car, driving behaviour as well as other non-technical factors are very important in determining a car’s fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. CO2 is the main greenhouse gas responsible for global warming. A guide on the fuel economy and CO2 emissions which contain data for all new passenger car models is available at any point of sale free of charge or can be downloaded from
