The Mondeo’s engine line-up delivers rewarding performance. And an uprated suspension, along with a range of intelligent technologies, put you in absolute control of that refined power. The result: ultra-precise handling in every situation. Performance is matched by efficiency. In fact, the combination of smart design and advanced engineering means outstanding economy and low CO2 emissions.
The new bi-turbo diesel engine: a whole new level of performance Not only is it the first bi-turbo diesel we’ve ever installed in a passenger car, it’s also the most powerful, delivering a thrilling and highly responsive 210PS (154kW) with an impressive 450Nm of torque. The engine also provides outstanding fuel economy and, from just 124g/km, lower CO2 emissions than you’d expect from a powertrain with this level of performance.
Smart design and clever engineering means that twin turbochargers provide power on demand, in every situation.
The primary turbo works at lower speeds, giving you an extra boost when you need it. For example, when turning from a junction into moving traffic. The secondary turbo works at higher speeds for swift, smooth and more confident overtaking.
EcoBoost: getting the most out of your engine
Three EcoBoost petrol engine options use a combination of direct fuel injection and turbo-charging, to deliver outstanding levels of performance and economy:
• At 125PS, the revolutionary (and multi award-winning) three cylinder 1.0 litre EcoBoost gives you all the power you’d expect from a conventional 1.6 engine with around 25% better fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions
• The new 1.5 litre EcoBoost produces 160PS with fuel economy of 5.9 litres/100km
• The 2.0 litre EcoBoost delivers an impressive 240PS, while a specially tuned sound symposer lets you enjoy its distinctive engine note in the cabin, when you’re accelerating hard.
Prefer diesel? Then choose from a range comprising of a 1.5 TDCi (available Q2 2015) and a 2.0 TDCi. All incorporate the latest engine technology to improve power, torque and economy, while lowering emissions. The 2.0 TDCi offers three power outputs, peaking at an impressive 210PS with a twin-turbo (available Q2 2015), whilst still achieving excellent economy and low emissions.
Both diesel engines are available in ECOnetic versions that deliver additional efficiencies. For example: 1.5TDCi ECOnetic (available Q2 2015) and 1.6TDCi ECOnetic with 94g CO2/km; and 2.0TDCi ECOnetic, 150PS from 107g CO2/km & 180PS with 115g CO2/km.
Six-speed manual gearboxes that match your engine
There are two 6-speed manual gearboxes available. One is lighter and is fitted to the 1.0 and 1.5 litre EcoBoost engines and the 1.6 diesel. The other has a higher torque capacity, which suits the 2.0 TDCi.
The model offers two automatic options. A 6-speed automatic gearbox has a high torque capacity and is fitted to the 1.5 and 2.0 EcoBoost engines. Alternatively, the Ford PowerShift is available on the 2.0 TDCi, combining the convenience of an automatic with the control of a manual, delivering lightning fast gear changes and power when you need it most.
Mondeo Hybrid Electric Vehicle-Enjoy the benefits of Hybrid Electric technology
As befits a car that pioneers technology, the Mondeo is available as an advanced Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV): the first ever to be manufactured by Ford in Europe. By combining the benefits of both electric and petrol power, the Mondeo Hybrid enables you to enjoy outstanding efficiency and refinement along with rewarding performance and driving range. Regenerative braking, an innovative Smartguage with ‘Brake Coach’, plus other smart systems, help further maximise this car’s power and efficiency.
EV+ combines the built-in GPS of Ford SYNC with sophisticated software to learn and remember frequent destinations. So when you’re a set distance from somewhere you commonly stop, your car will attempt to maintain electric-only driving mode untill you reach that destination.
Extra protection for your rear passengers The two rear outer seats can be fitted with a unique safety feature: a Rear Inflatable Seatbelt. In the event of an impact, the belts inflate and spread the crash forces over a five times larger area of the body than conventional seat belts. By reducing pressure on the chest and better controlling head and neck movement, this innovative technology can help reduce the likelihood of injury.
Ford SYNC 3 with Emergency Assistance An important and potentially life-saving aspect of Ford SYNC 3 is Emergency Assistance. In the unlikely event of an accident, where the airbag is deployed or the fuel-pump deactivated, the technology can automatically make a direct call to the Emergency Services for you. You can choose to stop the call, or talk to them if you need to. Crucially, the system will supply vital information, such as your GPS coordinates, even if you are unconscious.*
*Ford Emergency Assistance operates in over 30 European countries. This feature works when paired with a compatible connected mobile phone that is with you when an airbag is deployed (excludes knee airbags) or a sensor that registers a crash deactivates the fuel pump. Text function and Emergency Assistance not supported by all European languages.
Electronic Stability Programme The car is equipped with an Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), which incorporates a range of technologies designed to keep you in control. Sensors detect any sudden changes in steering, braking, or vehicle behaviour that may cause you to lose control, and then ESP precisely adjusts the speed of each individual wheel, making your car more stable and helping to prevent skidding. ESP features include Hill Start Assist, Emergency Brake Assist and Electronic Brake Prefill.
Active City Stop To help avoid low speed collisions, the car brakes for you. Collisions in stop-start, slow moving traffic happen all too frequently. Active City Stop is an advanced technology designed to help you avoid them, or at least reduce the impact. If the system detects the car in front has unexpectedly stopped, and you’re travelling at a speed of up to 40km/h, it automatically applies the brakes. As proof of its innovation, Active City Stop has been granted a Euro NCAP Advanced Award for safety.*
*Awarded on the Ford Focus.
Hill Start Assist temporarily stops you rolling backwards or forwards when making a hill start. The system works by maintaining pressure to the braking system for an extra 2.5 seconds, giving you more time and control as you move your foot from brake pedal to accelerator. It’s also useful when you’re stopping and starting on slippery surfaces.
Emergency Braking system.
Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) helps your vehicle achieve maximum braking effectiveness in an emergency situation. It’s controlled automatically via the ESP system, which senses how much pressure you’ve applied to the brake yourself and automatically increases it, if necessary.
Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection detects people in the road ahead, or who could cross the vehicle’s path, and warns you of their presence. If you don’t respond, the system automatically applies the brakes. This new technology is designed to help reduce the severity of accidents, or help avoid them altogether, and functions at speeds of up to 80 km/h (50 mph).
An Active Speed Limiter Device (standard on Zetec and Titanium) lets you set your maximum speed for an entire journey, in advance. The system warns you if you override it, or if you exceed the set speed by accident, while going downhill for example. The device is particularly handy in areas with speed restrictions, as it lets you concentrate on the road, rather than constantly checking the speedometer.
When it senses an emergency stopping situation, ESP pre-charges the braking system, closing any air gap between brake pads and discs. Known as Electronic Brake Prefill, this technology helps reduce the car’s braking distance.

Performance is matched by efficiency. In fact, the combination of smart design and advanced engineering means outstanding economy and low CO2 emissions.
Fuel-saving Auto Stop-Start technology. Use less fuel with Auto-Start-Stop
When you stop at traffic lights or your car is idling in a queue, this technology can automatically switch off the engine (while still supplying power to essentials like the headlights, air-conditioning, radio and the Ford SYNC 2 system). When you're ready to move, just depress the clutch and select first gear as usual, or press the accelerator on an automatic, and the system restarts. Auto-Start-Stop is particularly effective in town and city streets, where it can cut fuel consumption by up to 10% (urban cycle).
Active Grill Shutter Better aerodynamics for improved economy When you’re driving slowly, the Active Grille Shutter system keeps the grille vent open to cool the engine. When you pick up speed it can automatically close, improving aerodynamics and helping to save fuel.
Smart regenerative braking. A more efficient way to re-charge your battery Unlike traditional systems, Smart Regenerative Charging only charges the battery when it needs it and, whenever possible, avoids doing so when you’re pressing the accelerator. This can help save even more fuel and further reduce emissions.
